Simple Life-Changing Habits To Start Today

We live in a world filled with constant hustle and bustle. If we are not careful, we can easily lose sight of what matters – our well-being.

While that is true, there lies an opportunity for so much transformation amidst all the chaos.

We can embrace habits that are designed to enhance every phase of life. Habits that not only nurture how we show up for our careers but also other dimensions.

They will guide us towards having meaningful connections, pursuing our passions, and a healthy body and mind.

I believe the sooner we start the sooner we get on that transformation path that can even inspire other people around us.

Let’s look at life-changing habits that will make our daily existence worthwhile.

These are my best recommendations that have enabled me to see the change I desired in my life.

Ps: The list is in no particular order;)

Reading

The lesson that has hit me over and over about reading is that reading helps you gain wisdom from some of the greatest people you admire in the world, whom you might never have a chance to meet.

It is like consuming 30+ years of wisdom that have been compressed into a book that you can read in a month.

How cool is that?

On top of that, you get to expand your array of vocabulary. If you are tired of using the same phrases over and over in your conversations, try reading some books.

I am the kind of person who reads a book with a dictionary next to me. Well, not a physical one, but the one on my phone.

I look up two words for every chapter to avoid overwhelming myself with words. You want to make it as easy as possible for yourself, right?

Saving

I mean saving money. I am not a financial expert, but saving money is the bare minimum when it comes to money freedom.

It’s the saving habits that get you started on things like investments. You have to start somewhere.

Surely you cannot eat all you have. Let’s make some amendments to that.

In case you are not familiar with the story of Joseph from the Bible, here is a summary. (Genesis 41:29-37)

Pharaoh had a dream that Joseph interpreted. It was regarding the famine that would soon strike the land.

Joseph advised the pharaoh to save some food for a rainy day and for sure it came in handy.

It’s from those savings that the whole world found something to eat when the drought struck the land.

This is what saving does for you. It can help you manage crises and emergencies.

Showing up despite fear

I have listened to a couple of interviews where prominent people are asked how they show up with such boldness. Surprisingly, they all have the same answer, that they do it afraid.

Isn’t this so encouraging?

Listen to renowned business people, great speakers, and other people you admire.

That seems to be the constant. No one is sure of what they are doing. They only know that they need to keep showing up.

You, dear Learner, are no exception. Learn to take action despite the fear inside.

Tell you what, me starting this blog was (still is) scary but I deeply know it’s for a good course so I keep showing up.

What are you afraid to start? Think about it and face it head-on despite the fear.

You can do it!

Healthy eating

Whenever I think of health issues related to unhealthy eating, it bothers me.

The reason that happens is that we were all created to achieve greatness; you were created for greatness.

You have a great calling in your life and the vehicle that allows you to deliver that calling is your body.

The thought that constantly races my mind is why I would allow lousy eating habits to be the reason I sell myself short.

What if through your eating habits, you live much longer to witness the purpose for which you were made come to vision?

Think about it.

Gratitude practice

My theory is that practicing gratitude is more for you than others. It is what it does in the inside of you, that matters.

I want to be very conscious of when I express gratitude because I don’t want it to be empty words.

Gratitude helps you see how much you have and appreciate it.

Take note of the smallest things and give thanks for them.

In fact, I challenge you to write gratitude lists once in a while.

Whenever you feel discouraged and feel like you have nothing to live for, get in the habit of picking your journal and listing down everything you are grateful for.

You leave there feeling so refreshed and with the strength to face the days ahead.

Sleeping early

This is very much connected to the healthy eating point we’ve talked about.

It’s so unfortunate that adults don’t prioritize their sleep.

Just as enough sleep is important for a baby’s growth, it’s important for an adult’s body recovery.

Sleeping early and at a specific time, helps you establish a bedtime routine.

I listened to an episode from one of my favorite podcasts DOAC and they were demystifying the importance of sleep to our development.

Check it out, so much to unpack from it.

Limit screen time

Reducing screen time is essentially safeguarding your mental and physical health.

There are a myriad of health issues that have been linked to excessive screen exposure; eye issues, headaches, disrupted sleep patterns, and increased risk of obesity and cardiovascular diseases.

I remember experiencing a lot of anxiety at some point until I reduced my screen time.

I went to the extent of turning off app notifications on my phone, and it has been pure bliss since then.

Digital engagements have contributed to high-stress levels and feelings of isolation.

By consciously limiting screen time, we reclaim precious moments for meaningful interactions with loved ones, engage in activities that nourish our souls, and foster a deeper connection with the world around us.

Continuous learning

This is a no-brainer!

The world is moving at such a fast pace and we need to be up to date with certain issues.

Some people have not embraced the robust advancements in technology and this could be very detrimental.

I’m not saying to be extra and get on every online platform there is; I am saying to do some reading and see the changes that are happening.

See how those changes affect your business, and schooling and take advantage of it.

It’s highly unlikely that we will go backward to the analog era after this, so it’s only fair you acquit yourself with such matters.

Setting boundaries

Boundaries are really good for our protection and peace of mind.

You are not the same person you were 15 years ago, which means your preferences have changed, your circle of friends has changed, and your perspectives too.

I hung out with a friend I had in Uni, and I noticed their comments were very hurtful.

It bothered me for some time but now understand, that it is up to me to put boundaries with the person to avoid getting hurt.

What limits do you need to set concerning your, business, family, friendships, and career?

Beware of them, because they inform the decisions you make once those limits are broken.

Schedule ‘me-time’

You need to have time alone, to process everything else that is happening. Reflection always gives you context of what you are dealing with.

Self-awareness is a result of taking time to process things and analyzing your behavior, emotions, and responses.

Me-time is also time to love on yourself, and recollect yourself.

Take time and go have that massage you have been longing for. If you are into solo trips or wouldn’t mind doing it, grab that opportunity.

If me-time is reading a book for you or sitting alone with your thoughts, please do it.

I have often heard of new moms, who shut themselves in their rooms and sleep, away from all the demands of motherhood. Who am I to judge?

Me-time helps you show up for yourself in the most healthy and productive way.

Invest in quality relationships

I’m sure you’ve heard that it’s not about the number of friends you have but the quality of those friendships. If you haven’t I am telling you now.

I don’t know about you, but friendship is work!

Why then would you break off your back for the sake of friendships that are not pouring into you?

It’s not a call to cut off friendships, but a suggestion to invest in meaningful ones.

Direct your energy to the right circles.

As you do that, you will realize that the friendships that are dead weights will die a natural death as their name suggests.

Embrace imperfection

This is a very fresh lesson for me. I am a recovering perfectionist. I wanted everything to be in its place at all times. Truth be told, I still do.

My greatest lesson is that perfectionism will slow you down.

You have to be okay with perfecting things on the go. Don’t wait to be all set to launch your business.

As long as you have the basics (bare minimums) set, go ahead and launch it.

Pick lessons as you go and build on them.

Some of your potential buyers and partners could be having the next key to taking your business to the next level.

But you are delaying the process because you want everything to be perfect.

Think about it.
