Get Over The Fear And Delay Of Taking Action

Heey  Learner;)

Have you ever experienced that amount of time usually between having a dream and taking the first step?

From my own experience, that time is usually filled with a lot of fear, procrastination, and seeking motivation.

We are fearful of the dream ahead of us especially if it feels big. The fear is normally because you are trying to figure out the first step. You are not sure where to begin.

We also procrastinate a lot during that period. We keep pushing taking action to tomorrow, to next week, a month, and even a year.

It’s also very easy to get stuck seeking motivation while in that period. The truth is motivation pumps us up and we feel positive about ourselves and believe that we can actually do it.

But how much motivation really do we need to get up and take action?

The truth is taking action is uncomfortable, scary and it’s filled with uncertainties.

If the goal is to start working out, it’s very possible to also make up excuses such as having no gym wear.

This is just us avoiding taking action because if we really wanted, we could use the clothes we have available, to the point where it gets uncomfortable and forces us to get actual workout kits.

One thing I have been guilty of is over-watching interviews of people who have aced their workout and let me tell you it is very possible to get caught up in the phase of seeking motivation.

Let’s consider these five things the next thing we find ourselves not taking action as we should.

1. Start the day positively

Start your day with positive habits that energize you. Whether it’s a morning walk, affirmations, or a nutritious breakfast, these routines can set a positive tone for the day.

A good routine creates a sense of stability, making it easier to tackle challenges with a clear mind. I believe these work because they act as the motivation we talked about earlier.

Having something that is a routine for you is easy to sustain. You can even switch things up or do a rotation so that it feels fresh every morning.

2. Break down the big goal

When you break it down into smaller chunks you get encouraged seeing that it’s actually possible to take action, however small the action might look.

Maybe the first step of your bigger goal is making a call. That’s a simple thing and you can do it within five minutes.

You might sweat before doing it but once you have done it, you’ll feel so motivated to take the next action.

This way, you can focus on each small victory, building confidence to tackle the next challenge.

3. Have supportive people in your corner

Sometimes it’s very easy to be comfortable with not taking action because we don’t have support around us, or people who can hold us accountable.

We should have people we can talk to about our fears and insecurities attached to the actions we are taking.

I recently got friends who hold me accountable in reading. I want to read a book monthly because I know its benefits but I also know it’s possible to delay from starting.

Reading a paragraph is better than not reading at all.

These people will cheer you on and your worries will feel less overwhelming when you talk about it.

This explains why you should always surround yourself with people who pour into you positively. (Sidenote with love)

They take note of when you get stuck somewhere and figure out how to be of assistance.

4. Ditch comparing yourself to others

your path is very unique and customized for you.

Everyone progresses at their our pace.

The most prevalent thing that happens when you compare yourselves to others is feeling like they are way ahead of you, which is true. But we often forget that they started taking their first steps way back.

It’s very possible to prefer not taking action because of the fear that it won’t be as good as someone else’s. You can’t compare your step one to someone’s step 3000.

You should only compete with yourself and only seek to be a better version of yourself today than yesterday.

5. Make sure to reward yourself along the way

We want taking action to be something you do with excitement.

Remember that as much as you are smashing goals you are also seeking adventure in the process. (I hope so;)

If you work from home, a reward could look like going to a nearby restaurant in the afternoon to work from there.

I am a firm believer that we are constantly manipulating our minds to make the best out of life and that manipulation sometimes looks like a reward.

Humans work so well with rewards.

However, I believe the reward should still be tied to work so that you do not become distracted.
