What if I told you your brain is the greatest asset you have? Would that change how you treat it?
What would growing it look like?
Being a believer, one of the best places for me to draw wisdom is spending time with the Creator and I knew that when He put this question in my heart, it was something I was definitely going to share with you.
A litu* backstory:
Over a year ago, I listened to an audio by Earl Nightingale titled “The Strangest Secret” and I was literally mind-blown.
I couldn’t stop talking about it and sharing it with anyone who cared to listen. I kid you not, I downloaded the audio version on my phone and listen to it once in a while.
My greatest takeaway from the audio was that our mind is like a field, whatever you plant in it grows.
That’s pretty much what we expound on in this post.
To start us off, I’ll pose a question here: Do you believe your mind is the greatest asset you have? That is the basis of everything.
If the answer is yes, we can move to more questions.
Assets can be replaced but the mind is not one of those. When damage occurs to this asset, rebooting it is not the easiest road to walk.
What then do you think would be at risk if a disaster related to this asset occurred?
For assets to give the best returns, they have to be put in good condition and maintained well.
Would you say your mind is in the best state and is well maintained?
Sorry about the many questions but I want us to start painting a mental picture of how our minds are an asset.
If you were to calculate the monetary cost associated with correcting and maintaining your asset, how much are we looking at?
As we said, some are beyond repair while others will cost you an arm and a leg.
The working process of this particular asset relies heavily on information or data. Whatever data you feed it determines how it begins to process things.
An example;
Have you ever looked up something on the internet severally and it begins to suggest to you topics related to your search?
Sometimes we are dumb enough to ask how Google knows that’s what I wanted. LOL
But hey, we have given it enough information to work with and suggest things to us.
I am not a tech guru so my simplest way to deal with this is deleting my search history and turning down the successive suggestions.
Do you know how YouTube can suggest videos so many times until you click the ‘do not suggest anymore’ button?
Well, when it comes to our mind the same thing happens.
When you have fed it with a lot of data, a good amount to insinuate your interests, it begins to run on autopilot.
The data in our mind begins to manifest.
We express ourselves by speaking and acting, at least for the physical part. Our thoughts are what people don’t see but all these come from our minds.
You see where I am going with this, right? Have you heard the phrase “garbage in garbage out”?
If the mind is fed garbage, sorry to say but that’s exactly what will come out of you.
Sometimes we try so hard to be cautious and cover the tracks of what’s in our mind, but most often the tongue will sleep and what we think will come out.
We can try convince ourselves that our words and actions are right, but our thoughts will betray us.
You might not keep up with the pretense long enough. When you are in the ‘right’ environment, the true colors will come out.
You are probably wondering what the bottom line is since the message is loud enough.
I am pleading with all of us, trying to get on that personal development journey to guard our most priced asset.
It has the power to push us to the heights we dream of, and the reverse is true.
It can take us to the darkest of holes if we allow it. Remember the phrase “as a man thinks in his heart so he is’?
Not to say that hope is lost. If your asset is not well guarded, the journey to change that can begin at any moment.
I love the verse that says “Be transformed by the renewing of your mind…” (Romans 12:2).
Just as the computer search engines have to be manipulated over and over to start suggesting what we want, we can do the same for our minds.
Begin to feed your mind with what is good and healthy for it.
In the process, there could be moments of falling into the old ways. Do not be held back by that. Just pick yourself up and continue the transformation process.
The results might take time to show and it can be discouraging, but you have to keep showing up to protect your asset.
