Self-care Ideas for Your 30s
On the 7th of January 2024, I turned 30, the big three, zero. It’s like a sudden sense of responsibility hits you when you get there.
At least that’s how it was for me.
Don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against aging, if anything, I am a big advocate of people embracing growing old. I’ve never been shy of saying my age out loud.
There are some things I am really paying more attention to now than before. Here is why.
Self-care becomes increasingly important as you enter your 30s, as you’re likely juggling various responsibilities and experiencing changes in your personal and professional life.
Remember that self-care is not selfish; it’s essential for maintaining your overall well-being and resilience in the face of life’s challenges.
Prioritize yourself and make self-care a non-negotiable part of your routine.
Here are some cute self-care ideas customized for individuals in their 30s:
1. Prioritize Sleep:
Ensure you\’re getting enough quality sleep each night.
The recommended time is anything between 7-9 hours.
Establish a consistent bedtime routine and create a sleep-friendly environment to promote restful sleep.
I limit using my phone as much as I can before sleep. I noticed that I would have some headaches going to sleep if I had spent a lot of time on the phone.
If you can, take warm water before sleeping. It soothes your body and relaxes you and that’s exactly what you need before sleeping.
2. Healthy Eating Habits:
Pay attention to your diet and make choices that nourish your body. Focus on consuming whole, nutrient-dense foods and stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water.
Did you know that, your emotions, your skin, your cognitive ability, and energy are linked to your diet? Oh yes, they are!

I know we live in a microwave society, which means ideally everything should be ready when we want it including our meals.
That means we purchase a lot of fast foods and snacks because we want to save time and work.
As hard as it might be to hear, the older you get, the more inactive your body cells are, more so the ones involved in digestive processes.
That means you want to be very careful with your dietary choices. It’s a big-time investment.
3. Regular Exercise:
Find physical activities you enjoy and make them a regular part of your routine.
This could include going for walks, swimming, or joining a sports team. (I love tennis and I hope to join a team, pray for me friends…lol)
If your work involves a lot of sitting, make an effort to get up at least every hour and stretch.
I also strongly believe that the food you eat influences your energy for exercise. Are there certain meals you eat and you feel constantly tired? That could be a cue.
The bottom line is to get your body moving, one way or the other.
4. Stress Management:
Practice relaxation techniques to manage stress and promote emotional well-being.
Carve out time for activities that help you unwind and recharge, such as reading, taking baths, or spending time in nature.
You will likely find yourself in stressful situations but there are better ways to deal with stress.
One of the things that relaxes me is doing window shopping. If you live close to a mall, step outside for a while and go window shop for clothes or house appliances.
You will be more relaxed afterward and on top of that, have ideas for the next time you do actual shopping. It’s a win-win.
5. Invest in Meaningful Connections:
Prioritize quality time with friends and loved ones.
There is a lot you are trying to balance in your 30s, for you to have meaningless connections.
Nurture your relationships by scheduling regular get-togethers, whether it’s for coffee, dinner, or engaging in shared hobbies.
Nurture your relationships with friends, family, and significant others.
Make time for meaningful conversations, shared experiences, and acts of kindness towards your loved ones.
6. Invest in Self-Development:
Continuously invest in your personal and professional growth.
This could involve taking courses, attending workshops, or seeking out mentors to help you reach your goals.
It gives you an upper hand when it comes to things like job considerations and other activities.
It also strongly reflects how you carry out your business. As you learn you discover new things you can incorporate in your business to become more efficient.
7. Regular Health Check-ups:
Schedule regular check-ups with your healthcare providers to monitor your health and address any concerns.
Don’t neglect preventive screenings or vaccinations recommended for your age group.
I know I speak for many when I say that we normally go for a check-up when there is something amiss in our body. If you are not part of this group, good job, and keep at it!
You will be in a better place to address the concerns in your body if you know what they are.
You can plan for it on an annual basis, it doesn’t have to be every month.
8. Unplug and Disconnect:
Take breaks from technology and social media to disconnect and recharge. I know that’s where moneys* are for some of you, but I promise 3 hours of unplugging will not kill you.
Set aside dedicated time each day or week to engage in screen-free activities that promote relaxation and mindfulness.
I have this thing I call ‘Tools-Down Tuesday’. I literally, put gadgets away and sit with my journal and planner.
It allows you to actively plan and dream for your life. Additionally, you get to reflect on previous accomplishments and Ls.
This is worth your time.
9. Explore New Hobbies and Interests:
Keep life interesting and fun by trying out new activities or hobbies that spark your curiosity.
Whether it’s learning a new language (check out Duolingo), taking up painting, enrolling in baking classes, or trying out a new sport, exploring new interests can enrich your life and provide a sense of fulfillment.
Live a little on the edge and sign up for that dancing class with your partner. Wink;)

10. Journaling:
This can never be said enough times.
Dedicate time to journaling regularly to process your thoughts, emotions, and experiences.
Writing can be a therapeutic way to gain clarity and insight into your life.
Journaling does not have to be complicated. It can be what you make it.
11. Volunteer or Give Back:
Get involved in your community by volunteering your time or resources to causes that are meaningful to you.
Whether it’s in a children’s home, a church, an NGO, or a prison, look around and you won’t miss a place to start.
Start with little things like donating clothes and foodstuff.
Giving back can provide a sense of purpose and fulfillment.
12. Declutter and Organize Your Space:
This is one of my favorites. It acts as a therapeutic activity.
Take time to declutter and organize your living and workspaces.

A tidy environment can reduce stress and increase productivity and focus.
Pick a day to declutter your space and invite your girlies over. As they are assisting you do it, you are catching up and having a good laugh.
You’re welcome…lol.
13. Practice Forgiveness:
Let go of resentment or grudges you may have been holding on to.
In your 30s, you want to set yourself up for success and joy.
One thing I know about resentment is it keeps you from progressing. Imagine you have to be in a room with someone who offended you. You end up doing a lot of unnecessary calculations of how to dodge them, right?
Practicing forgiveness, both for yourself and others, can free you from negative emotions and promote emotional healing.
13. Cultivate a Positive Mindset:
Practice positive thinking and challenge negative self-talk.
I know it’s easier said than done but you can cultivate optimism by focusing on solutions rather than dwelling on problems.
When you train your mind to always think positively, it becomes super easy to navigate the difficulties in life.
Just so you know it’s a principle: what you sow is what you reap. If you sow positive thoughts, you reap the benefits attached to it. The reverse is 100 percent true.
Dissociate with negative thinkers if you have to so that they will not undo the progress you make in terms of your mind shift.
14. Practice Self-Compassion:
Be kind and compassionate towards yourself, especially during challenging times or when facing setbacks.
Hey, there is only one of you!
Treat yourself with the same understanding and support you would offer to a friend in need.
Don’t be so harsh on yourself. Remember you should love others as you love yourself. That’s where it starts, with you loving yourself.
Don’t forget that dear learner.
15. Invest in Self-Care Products:
You are so much worthy of treating yourself.
Treat yourself to indulgent self-care products such as luxurious skincare, aromatherapy oils, or cozy blankets to enhance your relaxation rituals.
Money topic coming right up, but you want to plan wisely around that.
Otherwise, you will treat yourself to these nice things and sleep hungry.
Create a budget for that and be unapologetic about treating yourself.
There is an association between how you treat yourself and how you show up for yourself and others. You do it so joyfully.
16. Set Financial Goals:
Finally, money matters… yay!
Take control of your financial future by setting clear financial goals and creating a plan to achieve them.
You probably just set foot into your thirties, and if you are like me, you don’t know how you got here because time has been flying.
Bro, Sis, take heart…lol. On the brighter side, you are wiser than before, more focused on your future, and taking hold of your finances.
This could include saving for retirement, paying off debt, or building an emergency fund.
Get financial education too so that you stay ahead of your game.
