Self-Sabotaging Mistakes To Avoid
Heey Learner!
Let’s talk about some of the things we should avoid when we are on the personal development journey.
First things first, self-work is one of the most commendable things you can do for yourself and you should approach it with the right mindset.
The key word to note is that this is a journey and not a destination. With this understanding, you will be more gracious with yourself.
Now, now, now…Here you go!
Having Unrealistic Expectations
Do not set unrealistic expectations for yourself. It will get you frustrated.
It’s unfair to expect overnight transformation or perfection.
Progress takes time and you’ll have to learn to appreciate the process.
For instance, let’s assume you want to overcome the habit of smoking, a habit that has been there for the last 10 years.
Unless it’s a miracle from God, quitting the next day is impossible. You overcome the habit one day at a time.
As long as the desire is accompanied by action, soon enough you will see the results of that.
Just hang in there;)
Overloading yourself

This point is closely related to the first one.
You cannot take on too much at once. It will get you overwhelmed and not in a good way, and also discouraged.
That is definitely not what we want. I believe you are not trying to quit before even starting, yes?
The important thing is you’ve already started on the self-work. If you are in it for the long haul, determine that in your mind and take one step every time.
What I believe should always be the first step is having the right mindset.
How about prioritizing that first, before you take on other things?
You have the rest of your life to keep getting better so don’t bend your back the first time.
Lack of Patience
You cannot afford to be impatient with the process. You have to stay committed to the journey to see results.
Many people give up barely before starting.
Growth takes time. It all depends on how committed you are to it.
Striving to be a Perfectionist
Seeking perfectionism will make you super tired. The reason is that it is not sustainable.
Aim for progress instead. Progress always beats perfectionism.
No one is perfect at anything. Christ himself says that only God is good.
So please cut yourself some slack and do not be so hard on yourself.
Fearing change
I’ll share a story.
When I first became a believer, a major concern I had was losing friends because I could no longer hang out in some places.
I am just glad it happened so gradually and it was not forceful. It’s not like I would approach someone and tell them we are no longer friends…lol.
It just happened and I am super thankful for that.
Change is inevitable. I promise you that you can get over that thing that you are so afraid of.
Embrace change as an opportunity for positive transformation.

Avoiding accountability
You can’t be all about blaming everyone else and not taking personal responsibility.
You need to Acknowledge your role in your journey. Accountability empowers you to make positive changes.
It’s very empowering knowing that you can actually take charge of your life and see positive results.
Taking responsibility is a true marker of personal growth.
Underestimating small changes
The mistake we often make is dismissing the impact of small, consistent changes.
Incremental progress adds up over time. Celebrate the small wins – they matter!
You get to see the potential you have and this is such a motivation.

These are just a few mistakes to avoid.
Remember to stay open to learning and please enjoy the amazing adventure of being the best version of yourself.
All the best Learner!
Xx;)
