10 Bible Verses to Overcome Limiting Beliefs and Change Your Mindset
Hey Learner!
In our quest for growth and advancement in life, it truly matters how we look at things.
I think it’s high time we addressed mindset.
Our mindset is powerful and it can make or break us.
I say this with a lot of confidence because I have seen its influence on my transformation. (Still ongoing btw)
Have you ever noticed how being in a bad mood or having negative thoughts influences your performance?
You feel like the whole world is against you and rooting for your failure.
It must be so hard living like this daily.
Some people have been stuck in a certain way of living because their outlook on life has not changed.
The Word of God is one tool I can recommend as you navigate changing your mindset in a way that you can welcome growth.
The Bible has a lot to say about the mindset but I’ll share some of my faves to give you a headstart.
Here are the Bible verses:
James 1:2-3
Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.
My take on this verse is that joy guarantees something beautiful to come out of a challenging time.
Such an attitude helps you navigate the lows of life calmly and confidently.
It does not take the hardship away but it makes you approach it differently.
As you would imagine, the opposite of that is being downcast whenever a trial comes.
Psalm 139:23
Search me, God, and know my heart, test me and know my anxious thoughts.
God made us and He is aware of every thought in our minds.
He even knows what you are just about to think of.
So then, who better to help us in changing our mindset, other than the one who made it?
The Psalmist knows fully well that his thoughts can betray him, therefore, he takes it up with his maker.
Joshua 1:9
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”

This verse comes through when we feel afraid, worried, or anxious.
It shifts the way we handle fear.
I often hear the phrase ‘Do it afraid.’ I’m sure you are familiar with that too.
Now, this verse gives us an even more powerful mindset; that is, you shouldn’t have fear at all.
The reason is that you have the backing of heaven wherever you go.
Do not let fear cripple you at whichever point or place you find yourself.
Proverbs 3:13-18
Blessed are those who find wisdom, those who gain understanding, for she is more profitable than silver and yields better returns than gold. She is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with her. Long life is in her right hand in her left hand are riches and honor. Her ways are pleasant ways, and all her paths are peace. She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her those who hold her fast will be blessed.
Just thinking about this scripture makes me smile.
If you are into seeing how different versions of the Bible put it, I propose to you The Passion Translation- it’s literally to live for.
These verses, strengthen you to let go of anything that comes in the way of you acquiring wisdom.
They change your perspective on wisdom and paint a clear picture for you of what wisdom does.
Philippians 4:6
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

This is almost similar to the one from Joshua.
The mindset it gives us is that there is someone we can direct our requests to.
This is really good because worry is aggravated by feeling helpless or thinking there is no solution for the situation you are in.
If asked, I would say this is such a relief, right?
James 1:5
If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.
I love love this verse. Like, how cool is that?
As in there is wisdom that freely exists and it can be freely given.
It gives you the understanding that there is a solution to being stuck.
The beauty of it is that the verse does not discriminate; anyone can be a candidate for finding that wisdom.
There is definitely a caveat to it in the verses that follow, but the main point is no one should limit themselves because they lack wisdom.
Romans 8:37-38
No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers,…
Reading this verse should pump you up to approach hard tasks boldly.
As in there is a conqueror and then there is you!
You are above a conqueror and all this is possible through Christ who loves you.
His love for you equips you with unmatched strength and courage.
The cherry on the top is nothing can separate you from that love.
You know what that means?
You will always be more than a conqueror.

Deuteronomy 30:19
This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live…
This verse should train your mind to always choose the things that bring you life.
The outcome of our choices has clearly been outlined.
Why would you then not want the best for yourself?
Psalm 91
Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High, will rest in the shadow of the Almighty…
This should be a whole chapter but I picked just the first verse.
It nudges me to think of a mindset of stability.
Some things we anchor our existence on are very shaky, especially when push comes to shove.
The promises given in the whole chapter are very encouraging and serve as a constant reminder that God is the best anchor for our lives.
That’s the view of life we need to embrace.
Philippians 3:12
Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.
This verse gives a growth mindset vibe.
The nudge is to always look out for more; not to stop at what we’ve achieved.
The encouragement here is to never settle for less.
However, as you are striving for more, it needs to come from a place of contentment.
That means being grateful first for what you have achieved and then pursuing more in a healthy way.
Points to note:
- Just like any mindset training, you need to believe the words of these verses. In other words, have faith, otherwise it will be for nothing.
- Sometimes you might need to repeat the verses to yourself over and over before they sink in and work for your good.
- The point of working on your mindset is for there to be positive action from it. Believe the verses, but eventually, you need to act. People will notice a different mindset in you through your actions.
- Most of the good things you have wanted in life, lie on the other side of your mindset shift. Take steps today towards changing that.
